Vice President Karen McVaigh opened the meeting by asking Dee Baughman to lead his fellow Lions in a patriotic song – God Bless America. Lion Allen Ventling led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lion Bob Line led his fellow Lions in prayer.
Lion Rick McVaigh introduced three special guests – Mackenzie Gerrard, granddaughter of Lion Steve Gerrard; and David and Joyce Rugeroni of the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program.
Guest Mackenzie Gerrard won the “No-Fine Badge”.
Vice President Karen passed around a “get well” card for our President, Roy Dressel, who is recovering from surgery.
Lion Allen Ventling announced that the Lions District Golf Tournament would be held next week at Valley Oak golf Course and that players are still needed.
Lion Allen also displayed a medal he received at a recent event honoring Vietnam Veterans at Fenway Park in Boston. The Welcome Home ceremony was followed by a 16 inning game with the Sox playing he New York Yankees.
Lion Allen auctioned off a box of Lobster Chocolates he picked up on his recent trip to Boston. Lion Ed Jones bought the chocolates for a donation of 12 dollars.
San Francisco Giants fan Dee Baughman was happy the Dodgers finally lost a game and their almost endless winning streak was broken.
Lion Allen Ventling had a great time watching baseball in Boston and hunting witches in Salem with his kids. He was also happy that the Boston Red Sox had sent Pablo Sandovol (AKA the Panda) back to San Francisco. Bay Area team fan Pete Sherwood kicked in a “sad buck” after hearing about the Panda’s return.
Lion Daryl Farnsworth was happy to hear his Doctor in Modesto say he was good for another 21/2 years after checking out his medical device.
Lion Craig Wheaton was happy that Vice President Karen was able to preside over the meeting. Lion Vicki Whitehouse agreed that Karen was doing an awesome job. Lion Vicki was also happy that Mackenzie was at the meeting, that Lion Pat Harrison was back at Club, and that Major League Baseball had done an excellent job of recognizing the service of Lion Allen and the other Vietnam Vets.
Lion Vicki was also happy that her kids were able to go to Comic-Con in San Diego. Lion Craig was happy that Lion Vicki was happy
Mackenzie Gerrard was happy that her family’s boat was fixed – she got her first sunburn of the season.
Lion Pat Harrison fined Lion Daryl Farnsworth for “endangering the Public” while driving to his Doctor’s appointment in Modesto.
Lion Vicki fined Lion Pat for his off-color story about Roman bathroom facilities, but was fined herself when she talked about her finger waving.
Lion Dee Baughman planned to fine Lion Tom Link if would not reveal his most recent golf score, but paid the fine himself after Lion Tom admitted he was a little over par.
Lion Dee Baughman won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the La Sierra Leo Club. Lion Bob Bricker won the scratcher lottery tickets. Guest David Rugeroni won the free ad. VP Karen won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to draw the white marble.
Volunteers Joyce and David Rugeroni from the Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program provided a presentation on Medicare benefits and the services that HICAP provides.
