Club President Rebecca Juarez opened the meeting by leading her fellow Lions in a patriotic song – God Bless America. Lion Chris Leigh Mosconi led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Dee Baughman performed the invocation.
Lion Tony Loliva won the no fine badge.
Guests for the meeting included prospective member Christine Chavez, and speaker Judy Landers and her guide dog in training, Hanzo.
President Rebecca reported that the second Lions Bowling Tournament will be held in Hanford on Sunday. The regional student speaker contest will be March 25th.
Golf committee co-chair Walt Juarez announced that the Committee will meet on March 21st at Buckman Mitchell insurance company at 5:30PM. Teams and sponsors are needed. A flyer is available for interested sponsors or golfers.
Lion Walt also shared that the Centennial Picnic will be April 8th. It will begin with a free pancake breakfast at 9:00 AM. Lion Walt shared a tri-fold brochure that he prepared for the Centennial.
Lion Dee Baughman auctioned off two items from his recent trip to Waco, Texas. Lion Vicki Whitehouse purchased two matchstick gardens from the world famous Magnolia Market for a donation of ten dollars. Lion Melinda Blankenship bought a package of blueberry muffin mix from the Texas Ranger Museum.
Several Lions, including Glenn Mar, Dee Baughman, Carol Jones, Ed Jones, Janet McClintock, Brad Board, Tom Link, Walt Juarez, Eric Frost and Rebecca Juarez honored Lion George Fry for his years of service and comradeship at his last meeting. Lion George is moving to a retirement community close to his family members in Elk Grove.
Don Landers was happy that his wife Judy could join us for the meeting and share her experiences with Guide Dogs for the Blind. Lion Don was also happy that his daughter is getting married.
Lion Tom link just returned from a skiing trip to Breckenridge Colorado.
Lion Dee Baughman had a great trip to Texas.
Lion Carol Jones, a huge Josh Brogan fan, will be seeing him in on Broadway in May.
Lion Pete Sherwood went to Visalia’s St. Patrick’s Day parade and was happy to see several Lions participating.
Lion Steve Gerrard was very happy that his daughter was OK after a nasty car accident on Sunday.
Lion Leigh Mosconi attended his grandson’s wedding at the coast.
Lion Janet was able to attend her granddaughter’s volleyball tournament.
Lion Brad Board was happy for a successful meeting of the Club’s nominating committee.
After a great trip to Baseball’s Spring Training in Phoenix, Lion Vicki Whitehouse donated five happy bucks.
Lion Walt Juarez shared that he and Lion Eric had hosted a very successful new members meeting.
Golfer Dee Baughman fined Lion Tom Link for reportedly taking “10 to 15 strokes” to get out of a sand trap at the Exeter Golf Course.
Lion Don Landers fined Lion Tom Link after seeing a video of what appeared to be Lion Tom chasing a moose on skis.
Lion Eric Frost fined Lion Brad Board for providing “used pizza” at the nominating committee meeting.
Secret greeter Vicki Whitehouse fined Lions Bob Bricker, Tom Gaebe, and Tom Link for not shaking her hand prior to the meeting as required.
Lion Tom Link won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the La Sierra Leo Club. Lion Vicki Whitehouse won the free ad. Lion Walt Juarez won the scratcher lottery tickets. Lion Tony Loliva won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to draw the coveted white marble.
Judy Landers shared her experiences in her 19 years working with Guide Dogs for the Blind.
