Happy Lion Pete

Club President Roy Dressel opened the meeting by asking Dee Baughman to lead his fellow Lions in a patriotic song. Lion Ruth McKee led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lion Pete Sherwood led his fellow Lions in prayer.

Greeter Melinda Blankenship introduced our guest, Visalia Unified School District Superintendent Todd Otto.

Lion Janet McClintock won the "no-fine" badge.


Lion Dee Baughman reported that he attended the most recent meeting of the La Sierra Leo Club.  The Leos will be sending five members to the New Members meeting in Laton on Saturday October 21st.  The Leos also have 4 to 5 members signed up to help out at the Band Review and Field Show.  The Leos will be having an ice cream social fundraiser on October 6th at 3:30.

Lion Tom Gaebe reminded Lions that the Annual Band Review and Field Show will be October 14th at Mineral King Bowl.

Lion Allen Ventling announced that there will be a Vegas Casino night on October 6th at the Elks Lodge to raise money for Family Builders Foster Care.  Lion Allen also shared that Houston School will once again have a "pull-tab" fundraiser this year.

Club President Roy reported that the Follow-Up Meeting for the Golf Committee went well, and that members had several good ideas that should make next year's fundraising tournament even better.

Happy Bucks

Lion Pete Sherwood donated ten happy bucks and shared that a fellow member of his honorable profession, Warren Gubler, would be running for state assembly.

Lions Aaron and Betty Odell will be spending the next two weeks in Palm Springs.

Lion Pat Harrison has been invited to his niece's after-wedding meet and greet.

Lion Janet McClintock just returned from Arizona, where she saw her new granddaughter.

President Roy was happy that the Dodgers clinched a spot in the playoffs.  He also shared that he placed 3rd in a recent Toastmasters speech contest.

Lion Dee Baughman's granddaughter won a major academic award.

Lion Daryl Farnsworth was happy to have finally won the battle with the weeds in his yard.


Lion Dee fined Lions Aaron and Betty Odell, who he saw recently at the golf course.

Lion Bob Line fined Lion Pete Sherwood for a recent surprise birthday party.  Lion Pete noted that he thought Lion Bob would have caught on to the surprise by the time the tenth guest arrived.  Lion Pat Harrison fined Lion Bob Line joking that Bob probably forgot it was his birthday -- hence the surprise.

Secret Greeeter Tom Gaebe fined several Members for not shaking his hand prior to the meeting as required.


Lion Dee Baughman won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the La Sierra Leo Club.  Lion Pat Harrison won the lottery tickets.  Lion Ruth McKee got a shot at the marble drawing, but failed to draw the elusive white marble.


Visalia Schools Superintendent Todd Otto provided an update on the State of the District.  The School system continues to grow as Visalia's population grows, adding one new elementary school this year.  A new high school is being planned for the future.  Dr. Otto presented the latest statistics on english language proficiency, math proficiency, and graduation rates, which are significantly higher than state averages.  He also answered questions about progress and funding.
