Club President Rebecca Juarez opened the meeting by asking Dee Baughman to lead his fellow Lions in a patriotic song – “God bless America”. Lion Pete Sherwood led the Pledge of Allegiance and Lion Bob Line performed the invocation.
Lion Dee also led a rousing rendition of the “Happy Birthday Song” for members with April Birthdays.
Mayor Warren Gubler was a guest at the meeting.
Club Secretary Steve Gerrard reminded Lions that the April 21st meeting would be held at Lions Park (Ferguson Street east of Shirk Road) in conjunction with representatives from Visalia’s sister city.
Lion Walt Juarez provided an update on the Charity Golf Tournament. The Club has one silver sponsor for the tournament - The Equity Group.
Lion Allen Ventling announced that Lions would be doing children’s vision screening at Family Health Care event on April 27th in Ivanhoe, and at Sunnyside School for Cinco de Mayo.
Lion Dee shared that the Mighty Oak Chorus would be singing at Marie Calendar Restaurant.
Lion Melinda Blankenship auctioned off brownies from Red Moose Cookie Company in Cambria. Lion Eric Frost purchased the brownies for a donation of $7.50.
Lion Dee Baughman auctioned off a Navy Tee Shirt from his recent trip to San Diego and Ensenada. Lion Rebecca purchased the tee shirt.
Lion Craig Wheaton was happy to have skied 35 days this season.
Lion Eric Frost took the train through Donner Pass, which had over 70 feet of snow this year.
Dodgers fan Lion Roy Dressel was happy his team was doing well this season. Lion Roy also shared that it rained over two inches at his house in Fresno.
Lion Walt Juarez donated a happy buck for the years of great service that Lion Eric Frost provided to the City of Visalia.
Lion Pete Sherwood will be traveling to Italy for a few weeks.
Club Secretary Steve Gerrard’s wife got a new puppy – a Terrier/Scottie mix.
Lion Dee Baughman thought he would owe taxes, but received a refund instead.
Lion Vicki Whiteside shared that Mayor Gubler had fell asleep during the presentation at another local Club.
Lion Craig Wheaton won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the Lions Eye Foundation. Lion Pete Sherwood won the free ad. Lion Roy Allen Ventling won the scratcher lottery tickets. Lion Roy Dressel won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to draw the white marble.
