Vice President Karen McVaigh opened the meeting by asking Bob Line to lead his fellow Lions in a patriotic song – Lion Bob responded with a rousing rendition of “America, My Country ‘Tis of Thee”. Lion Jeff Meader led the Pledge of Allegiance, and Lion Dee Baughman led his fellow Lions in prayer.
Greeter Melinda Blankenship introduced our guest – Kathy Looper, Executive Director of Gloria House.
Lion Tony Loliva won the “No-Fine Badge”.
Lion Janet McClintock reported there will be a Club visitation to the Visalia Sunset Lions Club on Tuesday August 15th. The Sunset Lions meet at Marie Callendars Restaurant. Lion Janet also announced that a Lions business directory is being prepared for our zone. Those interested in advertising in the directory should contact Lion Janet.
Lion Bob Line shared that he had passed along a membership application to a prospective member and encouraged other members to do the same this year.
Lion Melinda reported that there will be a Club Fundraiser at Five Guys Restaurant on Sunday September 17th from 4PM until closing. The Club will receive 20% of all proceeds from sales accompanied with the fundraiser flyer.
Lions Dee Baughman and Vicki Whitehouse reminded Lions that the Charity Golf Tournament will be held on August 25th, and that teams are still needed Lion Dee also shared that the Mighty Oak Chorus will be holding their Second Annual Roundup at Richie Barn on August 26th.
Lion Brad Board reminded Lions to keep their insurance policy information updated.
Lion Allen Ventling shared that there will be a Vision Screening Event on September 10th at the Family Services Offices in Tulare.
Lion Jeff Meader auctioned off a box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts from his recent trip to Hawaii. Lion Melinda Blankenship purchased the candy for a donation of fifteen dollars.
Lion Don Landers and his wife will be taking a three month trip to the Midwest.

Lion Dee Baughman’s granddaughter lost her 2nd tooth and is entering the second grade.
Lucky Lion Bob Bricker won a $170 marble drawing and donated a part of his winnings back to the Club.
Lion Craig Wheaton, a County Schools administrator, was happy that school started.
Lion Pete Sherwood shared that his oldest grandchild had started Manuel Hernandez School. Lion Melinda shared that he oldest granddaughter had started Golden West High School and was a yell leader.
Lion Vicki Whitehouse donated one happy buck for passing her written driver’s test, one for her granddaughter on the golf team at Clovis North, and five for the “Movers and Shakers” in the Club.
Lion Tom Link was happy that his angiogram was OK – he won’t need stints or surgery.
John Parker was happy that Lion Roy was out of the hospital and doing well.
Lion Janet McClintock has one granddaughter starting Fresno State and one one granddaughter playing varsity volleyball as a high school sophomore.
Lion Ed Jones fined members involved in education for the “idiot parents” driving their kids to school this week.
Lion Justin Levy fined Lion Tom link for allegedly stealing his fork.
Secret Greeter Allen Ventling fined Lions Tom Link and Bob Line for not shaking his hand prior to the meeting as required.
Lion Janet McClintock won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the Lions Eye Foundation. Brad Board won the scratcher lottery tickets. Eric Frost won the free ad and chose to plead for his favorite team. Lion Tony Loliva won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to draw the white marble.
Executive Kathy Looper described the new Gloria House, an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth.
