Visalia Host Lions meeting for Friday 9-5-25

Lion Leigh was our speaker today, talking about his involvement with Tulare County Special Olympics.

Todays Meeting

Our president, Lion Tom, led the meeting today and called on Lion Colin to lead us in saluting the flag, Lion Pad to lead us in singing the song, and Lion Bob Line to do the invocation.

The no fine badge went to Lion Leigh.

The secret greeter today was Lion Karen, who earned some dollars for the club, as Lions Tom Link, Dee, Pat, Tony, and Roy did not shake her hand.

Announcements

As this was the first meeting in September, we sang happy birthday to Lions Bob Line and Tony, who had the pleasure of being born in the ninth month.

Lion Melinda announced that the annual dues were now due and payable.

Lion President Tom Gaebe reminded us that October will be here soon, and that means Band Review time; we need help with that event.

Auction Items

Lion Tom Link had been to the coast and had two large pieces of chocolate that Lion Melinda took home for $20, without any competition.

Lion Melinda had an auction item herself, one that reminded us all of what Lion Link brings back most often, and that was Salt Water Taffy from the coast. It was purchased by Lion Mark for $5, with no competition.

Happy Bucks

Lion Pat was happy that a friend of his had recently undergone open-heart surgery and was doing well.

Lion Pete was happy that he had survived nine days with his grandkids, and in one more day, they would be going home. He was also happy to have gone to a Giants/Orioles game and had a great time.

Lion Dee was happy his granddaughter had the lead in a fall play.

Lion Karen had $5 because she had won $50 from last week’s Lotto.

Lion Leigh was happy because Lion Pat had made a donation to Tulare County Special Olympics. Pat has noted that requests for donations that you receive in the mail for Special Olympics do not go to the local group.

Lion Mark was happy that his daughter was recognized for doing well at her work.

Lion Roy was happy that even though the Dodgers had not been doing well, they were still in first place. He was also happy that he was able to ride his motorcycle to the meeting today.

Lion Brad was happy that a two-year project at his home in Washington State was almost done.

Lion president Tom was happy that he was able to be in and out of the DMV in only thirty minutes.

Lion Melinda had a happy buck for being able to spend some relaxing time at the coast with Carol Jones.

Lion Roy was happy that the club may have a new member.  Alvin Martin, who had contacted the club via email and will be visiting this coming Friday. He is blind and is familiar with Lions’ efforts with the blind. Pleas welcome him.

Fines

Lion President Tom fined Lion Brad for not attending a meeting for some time.

Lion Pete fined his father-in-law, Lion Bob Line, for not giving 10% of last week’s marble drawing winnings to the club.

Lion Dee also fined Lion Bob Line for being the face of Quail Park at Shannon Ranch in commercials. Lion Dee is getting a little tired of seeing Bob face on the TV all the time.

Trivia

Since last week’s speaker was COS president Brent Calvin, Lion Roy opted for COS Trivia today.

For Lion Bob Line (his name keeps coming up at this meeting), what year was COS founded? He didn’t know the correct answer of 1926, on the grounds of Visalia High School (Now Redwood)

For Lion Tom Link: What year did COS move to its present campus on Mooney?  Like Bob, Tom was also wrong, but close; it was 1940.

For Lion Leigh: How many campuses does COS have? Leigh’s guess was incorrect; it is 3.

For Lion Brad: How many students does COS have?  His guess of a little over 13,000 was over the amount of 12,571 and thus wrong.

For Lion Colin: How tall is Brent Calvin? He was close at 6’6″ but two inches off, and thus wrong, he is 6’8″

Drawings

The $5 drawing went to Lion Mark, who donated it to the Leo Club.

Lotto ticket: Lion Dee

The marble drawing went to Lion Dee, but he was unable to draw the white marble and lost out on the $25. (maybe hel’l make it up with the Lotto ticket)

Lion Pat Says Shop at Links
