Todays Meeting

Our president, Lion Tom, led the meeting today and called on Lion Roy to lead us in the flag salute, Lion Dee to lead us in song, and Lion Pete to do the invocation.

Greeter Lion Tony introduced our guests: Eric Quek, our speaker for the day, Anna Comi, her husband Luca Comi, and Luca’s father-in-law, Carl Anderson.

The no fine badge went to Lion Allen today.

Announcements

Lion Dee announced that his daughter had the lead in her school play.

Lion Melinda announced the latest project, collecting canned goods, which will be donated to the COS food bank for the Holidays.

Roy agreed to head the Candy Cane Lane parade organization arrangements and will be handing out maps at the corner of Main St. and Liberty starting at 4:30 on Monday, December 1st. Look for the email announcement, and a sign-up will be passed around next meeting (November 21st)

Happy Bucks 

Lion Dee was happy that Lion Pete had signed up to speak to us on December 12th about his Yosemite backpacking trip this past summer.

Our guest, Eric, had a happy buck because he did not listen to us Dodger fans. (Eric will be speaking to us on December 5th) 

Lion Alvin was happy that he was now a Lion member and that his family would be spending a week at Disneyland.

Lion Mark was happy to see all the guests today and was also happy that Fresno State was winning.

Lion Geoff was once again happy that the Dodgers had won the World Series (I try to get this in every edition of the Roar)  and that he was going to a concert at the Save Mart Center that night. (and a thank you to Lion Geoff for taking notes for the Roar this week)

Lion Tom Link was happy that our guest, Carl Anderson, had “allowed” his neighbor to decorate his home for the holidays. (Apparently, you can’t miss those decorations)

Lion Pete was happy to see all the guests at the meeting.

Lion Allen congratulated the Dodger fans on their second in a row World Series Win, (there it is again) plus he was happy for Carl Anderson’s Boston shirt.

Lion Roy was happy to see all the guests and was happy he had a nice motorcycle ride to Maraposa and Bass Lake the past Tuesday.

Lion president Tom was happy that the USC Trojans had won last week (and noted that BYU had not) and was happy to see Lion Alvin with us today.

Lion Karen, in channeling Lion Ruth from the past, was just happy it’s Friday.

Fines

Apparently it was no fine Friday. 

Our program today was presented by Anna Comi, who talked about her trip with her husband, Luca, along part of the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain this year.

Dee’s Trivia

Thanksgiving trivia was the theme today. 

For Lion Pete: What was the Thanksgiving meal served by Charlie Brown?  No one, including Lion Pete, knew the answer. It was buttered toast, popcorn, pretzels, and jellybeans. 

For Lion Bob: What was the most popular travel destination for the 2024 Thanksgiving holiday?  It was Orlando, Florida. Lion Bob owed a dollar. 

For Lion Mark: What was the hat that the Pilgrims wore called?  It was a Capotain, Lion Mark owed a dollar as well. 

For Lion Tom Link: What is the Monday after Thanksgiving called?  While Lion Tom did not answer correctly, others in the group knew it is called Cyber Monday.

Todays Meeting

Our president, Lion Tom, led the meeting today and called on Lion Melinda to lead the flag salute. Lion Pat to lead us in singing “God Bless America,” and Lion Dee to deliver the invocation.

Once again, Lion Rick won the no-fine badge.

The secret greeter today was Lion Steve, who got a dollar from Lions Bob, Pat, and Tony, who did not shake his hand.

Announcements

Lion Geoff announced that his kids were selling cookie dough as a fundraiser for their school. He passed around a sign-up sheet for it.

Auction Items

Lion Pat auctioned off a bag of candy that he had left over from Halloween. Elderwood has a hayride for the kids who live there, and Lion Pat had a large bag of candy that he had handed out to them. This one was purchased by Lion Roy for $11.

Lion Melinda fined herself for not having an auction item.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Steve had a happy buck for the Dodgers winning the World Series.

Lion Melinda had a happy buck for a recent trip to the coast she had taken, where she celebrated former club member Genie Berchum’s 75th birthday.

Lion Geoff also had a happy buck for the Dodgers’ World Series victory.

Lion Roy had happy bucks for Games 6 and 7 of the World Series, and also one because he rode his motorcycle to the meeting today.

Lion Pete had a buck for Game 7 of the World Series, although he was hoping the Blue Jays would win; it was a great game. He was also happy for our guest, Shelly, being here today.

Lion Mark was also happy that Shelly was with us today and that the Dodgers had won the World Series.

Lion Dee was happy that his Granddaughter was in a play at the Enchanted Playhouse, and he was happy that BY football was (and is still) undefeated.

Lion President Tom was happy for the Dodgers winning the World Series, hoped the USC Trojans would win their game that evening, and was happy he was going on his annual hunting trip.

Lion Tom Link had a happy buck, Go Fresno State Bulldogs.

Lion Tom Link fined Lion Geoff because Geoff’s Dodger shirt hurt his eyes.

Lion Melinda, who had been at the coast celebrating former club member Genie Burchum’s 75th birthday, did not bring back anything to auction off.

World Series trivia

For Lion Bob: What team has won the most World Series titles and how many?  Lion Bob got 50% correct; he knew it was the Yankees but missed the number, 27 titles.

For Lion Dee: who has the most World Series Home Runs: His guess, Yogi Berra, was close, as he did play with the leader, Mickie Mantle, who hit 18 homers. (Yogi played in an astounding 75 World Series Games)

For Lion Geoff: What was the largest crowd ever to see a World Series Game?  His guess of this year’s Game 7 was not correct. The answer was 92,706 who attended game 5 of the 1959 World Series at the LA Coliseum.

For Lion Mark: Who was the only person to pitch a perfect game in a World Series, and what year was it?  Mark could not answer, but bunted it to Lion Steve, who knew it was the Yankees’ Don Larson in the 1956 World Series against who else, the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Dee was happy that the Dodgers were behind in the World Series, three games to two, and he was also happy that his alma mater’s football team, BYU, was undefeated this year.

Lion Geoff (who took note for this week’s Roar, thanks, Geoff) was happy that the Dodgers had won two games in the World Series.

Lion Pat was happy that his granddaughter was playing flag football, and he was also happy about the Halloween Hay Ride that would be taking place that evening in Woodlake.

Lion Pete was happy that he was ready for all the kids who would come by that evening for Halloween (about 1,500 of them). He was also happy his grandkids had done well in Soccer and Flag Football.

Lion Mark was happy to see our newest Lion, Lion Geoff, here today. He was happy that he had a nice vacation.

Lion Roy had two happy bucks for the Dodgers’ two wins in the World Series and for the 18-inning game.

Lion Allen was happy about the relief efforts underway on the Island of Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa had devastated it.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy that Halloween was here, and for the Turnout at today’s meeting.

Lion Tom Link was happy that Fresno State football was playing Boise State on Saturday.
