Todays Meeting

Lion President Melinda led our meeting today and called on Lion Leigh to lead us in saluting the flag, Lion Dee to lead us in singing America the Beautiful, and Lion Bob Line to do the invocation.

No fine badge went to Lion Tom Gaebe.

Lion Bob Line was our secret greeter today and only Lions Mark and Tom, who were late, didn’t shake his hand.

Announcements

Discussions at our board meeting last Wednesday at Mountain Mike Pizza included the progress on merging our clubwith the Sequoia Lions Club. The board heard from several who were at the meeting with the Sequoia group. All agreed this was a positive move for both clubs. One of the things to be decided was the day of the week we will meet. Sequoia Club meets on Tuesday, and we also discussed that that could be a better day for us. We have another meeting with the Sequoia Club on Wednesday, May 22. We also talked about a delay in setting the list of officers for the 24-25 year until more progress with the merger. That could allow us integrate offers between the two clubs.

Also, please keep Lion Tony and his wife Nancy and their family in your thoughts and prayers as Nancy’s father passed away a few days ago, and they have gone back to Colorado, where he lives, to help with arrangements.

Happy Bucks

Lion Pat was happy that his daughter had started her new position at the VA near San Diego in wound care.

Lion Mark was happy that he was going to an outdoor concert at Fresno’s Woodward Park this weekend.

Lion Melinda was happy about the good weather.

Lion Colin and Lion Aaron were both happy to be here today.

Lion Tom Link was happy he was going to Moro Bay for the weekend. He was also happy that he would be going to a retirement party for all the Visalia Unified School District employees who had taken their Golden Handshakes for early retirement, his daughter being one of them.

Lion Pete was happy his son-in-law had just graduated from the University of North Carolina with an MBA. He was also happy his two grandsons were on the Cal Ripkin, All-star team.

Lion John was happy to see his Sister and Brother In Law, who had come to town to play in a pickleball tournament.

LIon Bob Line was happy that Lion Lauri Aguilar had been promoted to Quail Park at Cypresses’s head of Memory Care and is hopeing that she will be able to come back to our club.

Lion Leigh was $2.22 happy because he had cought a 22 inch trout. Lion Dee suspected it was a fish story but Lion Leigh said it was not just a story, what it was was about three meals.

Lion Allen was happy to talk with his son Travis recently and hear that as an Air Marshall he was going from Vancover to London to Hawaii to Las Vegas this week. It’s a hard job keeping the airlines safe but somone has to do it and that someone is Travis.

Lion Dee was happy to be Alive.

Lion Roy was happy that he was able to ride his motorcycle today and on a day ride to the Kings River above Pine Flat lake on Tuesday.

Lion Tom Link and Lion Mark were fined for being late. Lion Mark was fined an extra doller for sneeking in the back door.

Lion Tom Link was also fined for having his name tag upside down.

Lion Pete was fined for not having his name tag.

Lion President Melinda just made it to our meeting today. She was visiting one of our former members and presidents, Janet McClintock, and it was hard for Melinda to get away. Melinda called on Lion Allen to lead us in saluting our flag, Lion Pat to lead us in song, and Lion Pete to do the invocation.

Wednesday, May 8th: Board Meeting at Mountain Mikes Pizza at 5:30.

The one birthday this month was our missing lion, Craig Wheaton.

Lion Steve is still having some issues with vertigo, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Lion Tony has been gone for a few meetings taking care of his wife Nancy’s father, who lives in Colorado. Please keep his father-in-law in your thoughts and prayers also.

The meeting last Wednesday with the Sequoia Lions about merging our two clubs went well. It seems that both our clubs see this as a positive thing. While some details need to be worked out, like meeting days and how we will take care of the funds, our clubs have most other details in order. Another meeting is set for Wednesday, May 22, at Iris Fever’s office at the Visalia Emergency Air counsel.

Today’s speaker was former Lion MJ Juarez-Bermudez. 

Happy Bucks 

Lion John was happy to see Lion Betty back with us after her open heart surgery. 

Lion Pat was $5 happy because he could give the Woodlake Memorial district his unused lawn mower, which they needed.

Lion Roy was also happy to see Lion Betty with us today and was happy he got to see Lion Pete’s new office this past week when he was doing a business portrait next door. He was also happy that the Merger meeting with the Sequoia club had gone so well, and he was happy that the Dodgers were in the first place. 

Lion Brad was also Happy he was taking a trip to Washington state to visit his kids. 

Lion Betty thanked everyone for their prayers for her recovery from open heart surgery. 

Lion Melinda was happy for Lion Pat’s kindness in giving the memorial district his lawn mower, that Lion Betty was back, and for the group of women who visit with former Lion Janet each week. 

Lion Allen was happy that the Red Sox took two of three games against the Giants. 

Lion Pat was happy to see several lovely women around Lion Bob Line when he went to coffee recently. 

Lion Pete was happy that one of those women around Lion Bob was his wife, Claudia.

Lion Dee fined Lion Tom Link for being “really” late today. 

Lion Brad was fined because he was also a member of the Farmersville Kiwanis Club. 

Lion Melinda fined herself because she had not selected a secret greater today.

Lion Melinda began by thanking Lion Dee for standing in for her at the podium last week and wishing Lion Steve a quick recovery from a bout of vertigo he has suffered for the last couple of weeks.

Announcements

Our main announcement today was saved to the end of the meeting, and because we had no speaker, this became our program. The announcement was that The Sequoia Lions Club had brought up the possibility of merging with our club. Because both our clubs have struggled with membership over the last few years, they have been talking about our two clubs joining forces. After some discussion with Lions Roy and Lion Presidnt Melinda, they brought it up at their board meeting on April 23 and they decided to pursue the idea. A meeting has been set up this Wednesday, May 1st, with representatives from both clubs to discuss what each of us expects, how this would all come about, or if it should go forward. No discision will be made at the meeting, it’s more of a fact finding endivor.

Lion Melinda lead the discussion today and asked the members for their input and ideas. The atmosphere was positive for the merger.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pete was happy that the Giants were two games below 500. He was also happy that his grandkids had a great baseball game, but thy lost.

Lion Pat was happy that his Mighty Oak Chorus barbershop event last Saturday had gone so well. They even had some high school groups there that were top notch.

Lion Melinda went to the Barbershop show on Saturday and it was fantastic.

Lion John had a happy $10 because he and his wife had gone to the coast and didn’t bring anything back, but hey had a good time. John also had a good joke about a robotic lie detictor.

Lion Karen won last weeks Loto Tickets and collected $15, which she rounded up and gave the club $2.

LIon Brad was happy to be back at our meetings as he has been gone for a few weeks, he was also happy to have gone to the Barbershop show on Saturday and that was great fun. He did mention that the insuranch world was a little crazy now, thought I’m not sure he had a happy buck for that.

Lion Roy was happy the first place dodgers were a few games above 500.

Lion Aaron was $2 happy that his sweetie, Lion Betty would be back at our meeting next week.

Lion Pat was $5 happy bcause his daughter fisished her fourth seminster as a wound nerse and in July will be going to the Cleveland Clinic for training.

Lion Bard was happy because his daugher, the coral director at Visalia First Prespertian, had told him that Lion Tom Link was asking her about Brad and were he had been the last few weeks. They call him Tommy “The Informer” Link.

Lion Tom Link was happy his daughter would be retiring from teaching this year, he was also happy he got two pars in gold this morning.

Lion Melinda was happy that she had such a great time with her relitives in Nor Cal, going to Alcatrize, but she gave $20 because she didn’t bring anything back.

Lion Tom Link had a happy buck for Leo Costa being with us today as it reminded him that he had won a raffle price to Leo’s Gym, G fit plus at the Murder Mystery Dinner last fall.

Lion President Melinda announced that last Wednesday’s board meeting was canceled due to a lack of interest—actually, because no members were able to attend. We decided to punt it into May.

Lion Melinda announced that she would be out of town next week, and Lion Dee offered to take the podium at next week’s meeting.

Mary and Brian talk to us about the low barrier shelter being built for the homeless. 

Happy Bucks 

Lion Melinda had $5 happy bucks because she has Cussons coming from Iowa next week. She was excited to see them and show them some local attractions. She was also happy that Lion Dee would stand in for her next week when she was out and about.

Lion Elaine was happy to be back at our club meeting after being gone for a few weeks. She was also happy that Lion Betty is on the mend after surgery and hopes to return to us soon.

Lion Mark had a happy $6 because he had bought a new car.

Lion John was also happy that he had a new car, though he had purchased it last year and had forgotten to give a happy buck for it at that time.

Lion Pat was happy that one of his grandsons was taking up fencing. (that’s the sport, by the way, not putting up fence boards)

Lion Bob Line, the no-fine badge winner today, was happy because a granddaughter of one of the residents at Quail Park Shannon Ranch, where he lives, was on Wheel of Fortune and one some mula.

Lion Karen was happy to see our speakers today.

Lion Allen was happy he had a good time in Anaheim watching his Red Sox play the Angeles last weekend.
