President Ruth McKee opened the October 4th meeting with a patriotic song led by Lion Pat Harrison. Aaron Odell performed the invocation and Betty Odell led the flag salute.

Global Learning Charter School Principal Karen Aure was a guest at the meeting.

Lion Pat Harrison won the no-fine badge.

Band Review Coordinator Tom Gaebe reminded members that the Annual Band Review and Field Show is coming up on October 12th, and to sign up to volunteer to help.

Lion Allen Ventling reported that vision testing was performed on 93 kids at Valley Life Charter School on October 4th. Seventeen of the kids were referred to local optometrists. The next Lions vision screening event was at a Family Health Care Network health fair that night in Ivanhoe.

Lion Janet McClintock’s granddaughter continues to star on the Redwood Rangers volleyball team.

Lion Daryl Farnsworth will be 79 years young next week.

Dodgers fan Roy Dressel was happy with his team’s recent wins.

Lion Dee Baughman repeated his challenge to Dodgers fans. Lion Dee will donate 10 dollars in the unlikely event of the Dodgers winning the World Series, and Dodgers fans can contribute a buck apiece if the LA team fails to win the Series.

Lion Craig Wheaton was happy that Karen Aure had agreed to speak at the meeting on very short notice.

Local Celebrity Tom Link will be honored at a red carpet event.  Lion Pete Sherwood has the honor of introducing Lion Tom.

Lion Vicki Whitehouse shared that her husband is doing well and playing golf.  Her granddaughter recently received a Joy award at Central Valley Christian School.

Lion Allen Ventling is looking forward to wagering on the sport of kings at the Big Fresno Fair.

President Ruth was, once again, happy it was Friday.  She is also looking forward to retiring soon.

Lion Melinda Blankenship was happy to see Lion Brent Robinson back at Club.

Fines

Lion Pat Harrison fined Lion Tom Link for retiring years ago. Since the closure of Links Menswear, Lion Pat has been unable to get his pants fixed.

President Ruth fined Lion Allen Ventling for a joke about her stature.

Prizes

Roy Dressel won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the La Sierra Leo Club. Roy also won the free ad. Lion Dee Baughman won the Lotto tickets. Pat Harrison won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to find the white marble. 

 Presentation

Global Learning Charter School Principal Karen Aure described their efforts to prepare students to be successful in the global community. The school took over the old Fairway Elementary School facility. It now has over 400 students and is affiliated with the Visalia Unified School District.
