Visalia Host Lions meeting for 8-15-25

Todays Meeting

Lion President Tom led the meeting today and called on Lion Mark to lead us in the flag salute, Lion Bob Line to lead us in song, and Lion John to do the invocation.

Head greeter, Lion Tony, introduced our guest and speaker, Jason Crabtree from CSET and the Navigation Center.

The no fine badge went to Lion Bob Line today, causing the club to be just a little short of funds collected.

The secret greeter today was Lion Melinda, and she gathered a bunch of dollars, one each from Lions Pat, Tom Link, Bob Line, Elaine, and Steve, along with Lion Roy, who paid under protest.

Announcements

Lion Tom announced the results of the board meeting, held just before our regular meeting today. The main thing that was decided was to increase the cost of our meal to $15 starting this coming Friday, the 22nd. We have to pay for 21 meals each Friday, and we have not been getting that number for some time, so the club has been going in the hole every week. This little bit extra will help to close that gap a little.

We also decided to take the $500 donation to Visalia Post Acute (formerly Redwood Springs) out of the budget, along with the $600 that was allocated to the Super Bowl Party for the homeless, as we have not done that event since before COVID.

Lion Dee announced the Rawhide night at the ballpark would be Wednesday, August 27th, with a cost of $22 per person, and that includes admission to the air-conditioned Hall of Fame club.

Lion Melinda handed out new member applications to each of us, now all we have to do is use them.

Lion Leigh

Lion Leigh makes a point about eating some cookies before his wife noticed a dead mouse in the box.

Lion Melinda

Carl Melinda hands out new mnember forms.

Jason Crabtree

Lion Jason Crabtree from CSET and the Navigation Center was our speaker today, he is a member of the Visalia Breakfast Lions.

Happy Bucks

Lion Steve started off the happy bucks by just being plain happy.

Lion Dee was happy that they had a new two-legged little one at his house: this one has feathers and will shortly learn to fly.  The bird got trapped in their garage and Dee and his wife are helping both the baby and its mother out.

Lion Leigh was happy that he did not get sick from eating a cookie from a package that had a dead mouse in it.

Lion Mark was happy to see Melinda back at our meetings, and was grateful for Lion Karen doing the treasurer’s job.

Lion Roy was happy that he and his wife Javonna were going to Sunnyvale for a couple of days.

Lion Melinda was happy to be back after going to a funeral in San Francisco, and she was happy that she didn’t have any surprises like Lion Leigh had in a box of junk her Ex had left her before moving.

Lion Allen was happy the Red Sox were in second place. Lion Dee was happy that the Dodgers were in second place, rather than first, where they had been for most of the season.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy his granddaughter was on the JV team in school since she is only a freshman.

Lion Tom Link was happy the 49ers were playing this weekend.

Fines

Lion John fined Lion Tom Link for being late, not to the main meeting, but to the board meeting that took place just before our regular meeting.

Lion Mark was fined for trying to tell Lion president Tom that he should fine people for talking.

Lion president Tom fined Lion Karen for telling him Lion Roy was the head greeter when it was Lion Tony.

Trivia

It’s harvest time around the valley for a lot of crops, so that was the topic of the trivia today.

1. For Lion Pat: How many ag commodities are produced in Tulare County?  Pat’s answer of 20 was slightly off; the correct answer was 150.

2. For Lion Bob Line: What is the yearly value of those ag products? His guess of around 2 billion was again a bit off; it’s 8.6 billion.

3. For Lion Elaine: What is the most valuable commodity produced in Tulare County?  She answered correctly, Dairy

4. For Lion John: How many dairy cattle are in Tulare County? His answer was not recorded, but it was not correct; it’s 850,000 head.

5. For Lion Tony: How long does it take corn to grow from the time it sprouts to when it’s harvested?  He answered correctly, 4 weeks, because it’s from 20-40 days. Quick stuff that corn.

Drawings

$5 drawing went to Lion Allen, who donated it to the Lions Eye Foundation.

Lotto Tickets went to Lion John.

Lion Tom Link won the opportunity to draw a white marble but failed in his bid, on to next week.

giants

Lion Dee won the free ad and said:
Come on, Giants, let’s win one game.

Thanks once again to Lion Colin for taking notes while I collected money.

As always, we are looking for speakers for the club. Use this schuduler app to book your speaker or send them the link to this page and have them do it themsilves. No need to contact me when you want to know if a date is available, if it open on this app, it’s available. (Lion Roy)
