President Ruth McKee opened the September 27th meeting with a patriotic song led by Lion Bob Line. Ed Jones performed the invocation and Vicki Whitehouse led the flag salute.
Acting School Superintendent Tamara Ravelin was a guest at the meeting.
Lion Roy Dressel won the no-fine badge.
Announcements
Lion Steve Gerard reminded members that the Annual Band Review and Field Show is coming up on October 12th, and to sign up to volunteer to help.
Lion Allen Ventling shared that there will be vision screening events at Valley Life Charter School and in Ivanhoe on October 4th.
Lion Tom Link reported that the Tulare County Historical Society will be having a fundraiser barbeque on October 6th at Mooney’s Grove.
Happy Bucks
Lion Janet McClintock’s granddaughter is playing volleyball for the undefeated Redwood Rangers.
Lions Ed and Carol Jones will be visiting their son deep in the heart of Texas next week.
Lion Dee Baughman’s granddaughter is now attending Valley Life Charter School.
Biker Roy Dressel was happy to be riding his motorcycle to work.
President Ruth was, once again, happy it was Friday.
Lion Craig Wheaton kicked in five happy bucks. He recently
encouraged a friend to begin using a satellite locator when hiking, and the friend was able to use to device to summons rescuers after falling into a ravine.
Lion Vicki Whitehouse shared that her husband is doing well. She was also happy to see Lion Justin at the meeting.
Fines
Lion Dee Baughman fined Lion Bob Line for falsely claiming he was the oldest member at club. The most senior member is actually Bob Bricker.
Lion Craig Wheaton fined Lion Justin Levy for being the youngest at Club. He also fined President Ruth and Lion Vicki for excessive political correctness – Lion Craig joked that he is now afraid of using the word short.
Lion Dee also fined Lion Justin for being overdressed, and Lion Tom Link for constantly selling tickets to every charity event in the County. Lion Tom was also fined for several other perceived infractions.
Lion Vicki Whitehouse fined Lion Tony Loliva, who reportedly received a phone call during the invocation.
Prizes
Craig Wheaton won the five-dollar raffle and donated the proceeds to the Lions Eye Foundation. Bob Line won the free ad. Lion Roy Dressel won the Lotto tickets. Steve Gerrard won a shot at the marble drawing but failed to find the white marble.
Presentation
Superintendent Tamara Revelin provided an update on the Visalia Unified School District. She talked about some of the current challenges; shared statistics regarding enrollment, graduation rates, and test scores; and described ongoing building and modernization projects.
