Todays Meeting

Lion President Colin had Lion Betty lead us in the flag salute, Lion Pat led us in singing the song, and Lion Mark did the invocation.

Lion Tony introduced our three guests today from Visalia Unified: Superintendent Kirk Shrum, Public Information Officer Christina Gutierrez, and Chief Business Officer Nathen Hernandez.

Lion Bob Line received the no-fine badge today, saving him some money later in the meeting.

Today’s Secret Greeter was Lion Tom Gaebe. Lions Dee, Karen, and Bob did not shake his hand, but calling out Lion Bob cost Lion Tom a dollar because Lion Bob had the no-fine badge today.

Lion Tom Link noted that he did not shake hands with the Secret Greeter, but Lion Dee never collected the dollar from him. The club voted to fine Dee for that transgression.

Announcements

Installation Dinner: Wednesday, September 2, at Left of Center

Lion Melinda announced that the Installation Dinner is set for Wednesday, September 2. It will be at our regular club meeting location, Left of Center, and will start at 6:00. Please text or call Lion Melinda at 559-280-3845 to confirm you will attend and whether you will bring a guest. The cost is $25 for members and $30 for guests. Pay at the door. Dinner will be steak.

Lion Tom Gaebe announced the Band Review, coming up on October 10th; forty bands are already signed up for the event. We’ll need help, so mark your calendars.

Lion Dee announced that Lion Amy is having some health issues and will not be able to attend meetings for a while. We all wish her well and hope to see her back soon.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat had two happy bucks because Parker and Parker Plumbing quickly fixed a water pipe break in his front yard.

Lion Pete had seven happy bucks, one for each night he spent in the backcountry on his annual backpacking trip.  Look for a program in the coming weeks.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy because he will be heading to Alaska next week, and because his granddaughter is on the El Demonte volleyball team that won the CIF Southern Section Division 9 championship by defeating Nogales.

Lion Tom Link was happy because he was invited on the next Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in a couple of weeks. He will return to Fresno Airport on September 2.

Lion Roy was happy because he will be going on a motorcycle camping trip to the Owens Valley and White Mountains next week, and the week after, he and his wife, Javonna, will go to Fort Bragg for a few days.

Lion Mark was happy to see our VUSD guests today and was glad that Lion Tom was going on the Honor Flight.

Lion Brad was happy to be joining his wife in Washington State for the next couple of weeks.

Lion Allen was happy to receive his refund from State Farm Insurance, though he used the word “small” to describe the amount.

Lion Tom Link was happy that Lion Brad’s daughter, Hannah, was now the full-time Choir Director at his church, First Presbyterian.

Lion Betty was happy they got one of their toilets fixed.

Fines

 Lion Tom Gaebe fined Lion Brad because his Tesla insurance bill was $5000. 

Lion Brad fined Lion Roy because of his motorcycle license plate frame that read “Most Men Drive, Real Men Ride.” Brad was highly offended by this display of motorcyclist testosterone.  Lion Roy was unapologetic. 

Drawings 

 $5 went to Lion Dee (same guy every week), who donated it to the Leos. 

Lotto Tickets went to Christina Guiterez, our guest today. 

The marble drawing went to your Roar Editor, Lion “real men ride” Roy, who drew a clear marble and got nothing.
