Todays Meeting

Lion President Roy led our meeting today and called on Lion Bob Line to lead us in singing God Bless America, Lion Craig for the flag salute, and Lion Pete to do the invocation.

Announcements

Lion Bob Line reminded the club that the celebration of life for Lion Bob Bricker would be Saturday, November 18th at the Darling Hotel from 1:30-4:30.

Lion president Roy announced that at the meeting on Wednesday morning, the board decided to end the almost two-year practice of meeting on the fourth Wednesday of every month in the evening. The club will return to meeting every Friday at noon at Left of Center.

The board also voted to return to a golf tournament fundraiser to be held on Friday, September 20th, 2024. After the results of the Murder Mystery Dinner had not been what the club had hoped, the board decided that we would go back to an event that the club had done for many years in the past. Lion Melinda will be the committee chairman.

The board also voted to give Hands in the Community a donation of $250 to help with the purchase of a special boot for an elderly lady who had found her boot missing when she returned from a stay in a nursing home. The original boot had been paid for by her insurance and she did not have the funds to pay for a new one out of her pocket. Hands in the community had then gone to the manufacturer and negotiated a lower price, then went to a local doctor who agreed to change his cost. 

The board also decided that Friday, December 15th, would be the date for our annual Christmas party. Invite your spouse or friend and bring a toy for a boy and a girl for our annual drive for Visalia Emergency Aid.

Happy Bucks 

Lion president Roy was happy he had no jobs for the coming week. After over a month of being swamped, it’s time for a little rest.

Lion Dee had a happy buck/announcement because the Mighty Oak Chorus, of which he and Lion Pat are members, has a Christmas concert coming up on December 9th at the Fountain church.

Lion Bob Line was happy Fresno State football had won.

Lion Tony was happy to see Lion June Anna and Ms. California Teen Marlie Wright with us today.

Lion Craig was happy that he was able to ride his bike to the meeting today and happy that the snow, which is due later in the week, was going to hold off for a few days so he could get his ski patrol lessons in.

Lion Pete was also happy to see our guests and happy that he was moving his office to a larger space soon.

Lion Pat was happy that Lion Tony filled in as the Lion Tamer for the day, and he was happy for his barbershop group’s Christmas program.

Fines

Lion Dee fined Lion Craig for scaring him by riding his bike and not stopping at the stop sign.

Lion Roy had a buck for a joke about Frosty the snowman in the vegetable aisle, checking out the carrots; when asked what he was doing, he replied, oh nothing, just picking my nose.

Lion Bob Line was fined for not having his badge on.

Todays Meeting

The last of the bullpen presidents, Lion Roy, led our meeting today and called on Lion Dee to lead us in singing a rousing song, Lion Leigh to lead us in saluting our flag, and Lion John to do the invocation.

Lion Leigh won the no-fine badge.

Lion Mark was our secret greeter and managed to avoid some members and get a few dollars for the club.

Announcements 

Lion Bob Line announced that the celebration of life for Lion Bob Bricker will be held on Saturday, November 18th, at the Darling Hotel in Downtown Visalia from 1:30-4:30.

Lion Steve passed around a plaque given to the club by the Cal Ripken Baseball League for our sponsorship of one of the teams.

A signup sheet was passed around for work on the Candy Cane Lane Parade the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Reminder: Wednesday, November 8th, is our monthly board meeting at Valhalla’s Restaurant on Center Street at 7 AM.

Next week, we will have Miss California Teen, Marlie Wright with us for our program, which should be a good one.

Happy Bucks 

Acting president Lion Roy had a happy $20 because he was back at the club after being absent for the past month. It had been one of the busiest months he had had in his business in many years.

Lion Craig was happy to see Lion Roy leading the meeting today because he didn’t have to do it.

Lion Iris East-Fever from the Sequoia Lions Club (and our speaker today) was happy to be with us because it took her away from her hectic job for a few hours.

Lion John was happy to see Lion Iris and Lion Leigh with us. Lion Leigh had been away for a few weeks.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy the Band Review went off so well, and he thanked all of the club members who helped out that day.

Lion Leigh was happy that he had taken a group of Special Olympics athletes to Sacramento for a Golf tournament recently, and they had all received a second-place award.

Lion Aaron was happy his wife, Lion Betty, was feeling better.

Lion Pat had a happy $5 and a joke about the Chicago Bears. He was also happy that a local Halloween Hay ride had gone well and work on his sprinkler system was finished.

Lion Karen was happy she had just 75 kids come to her house for Halloween.

Lion Roy was happy that he had his usual amount of kids for Halloween: zero, up from last year’s  negative 0.

Fines

Lion Mark fined himself because he had to leave early.

Lion Pete fined acting president Lion Roy because he had not sent out an email reminding him of the meeting schedule, so he, along with Lion Dee and Lion Pat, showed up last Friday when there was no meeting, being that there was a Wednesday evening meeting that week.

Lion Karen fined Lion John because she did not get the normal Lions 10% discount at John’s Feet for Life shoe store, she was informed that it was now just 5%. In his defense, Lion John said that was a mistake, and the Lion’s discount is still 10%. She also fined Lions Pete, Dee, and Pat for not knowing the schedule and coming to Left of Center for the meeting last Friday.

Announcements

Mid-Relief president Lion Allen announced that the board meeting will be this Wednesday at Valhalla on Center Street at 7:00 AM. 

Lion Tom Gaebe announced that the band review will be on Saturday, October 21st, and help is needed. There will be 35 bands this year. 

Our bookkeeper, Lion Karen, announced we had made about a thousand dollars on the Murder Mystery Dinner. While this was not as much as we had hoped, there was a period when there was a worry of losing money. 

Happy Bucks 

Lion Dee was happy that his granddaughter, about to turn 13, would be in a play soon at the Enchanted Playhouse.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy that he would be in South Bend a week from today to watch his USC football team play Notre Dame.

Lion Tom Link was happy Fresno State Football was undefeated; they have won 14 games in a row.

Lion Tony was just happy to be here.

Lion Bob Line was also happy to be at the meeting today. (for more reasons than one) 

District Governor Christy Kroell was also happy to be with us today and also happy that her home club, the Fresno Host Lions (who sponsored our club back in 1926), was about to celebrate its 103 birthday.

Lion Christy’s husband and past district governor was happy to be with us today.

Lion Pete was also happy his father-in-law, Lion Bob Line, was with us today. Lion Bob had an incident last week where he had to be taken to the hospital, but he is AOK now.

Lion Colin was happy that his business, Franey’s, was celebrating sixty-eight years in business.

Lion Brad was happy that space aliens were not visiting our planet after seeing your roar editor Lion Roy coming to the meeting in his motorcycle gear.

Lion Craig was happy that he could take a three-day backpacking trip in Yosemite this weekend.

Lion Allen was happy to see both Lion Christy and Lion Al here today. He was also happy Lion Tom Gaebe putting in the work again this year for the band review.

Lion Karen was happy that she and Lion Rick were going to Laughlin this evening for the weekend.

Lion Dee fined Lion Bob Line because of his incident at a class reunion this past week. He caused 14 heart attacks, and three ladies tried to give him mouth-to-mouth recreation.

Lion Karen fined herself for having to leave early.

Lion Allen fined Lion Roy for not addressing the District Governor as “Lion” Christy.

Lion Bob Line was today’s secret greater but he was so popular that everyone shook his hand.

Lion Tom Link, who is president of the Tulare County Board of Education, passed out  the new, and first of its kind, Annual Report on the impact of the office of educiation on students, educators and parents.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Craig was happy that the major remodel on his old house, a project that has been going on for over a year, is now starting to progress again after he had to hire a new contractor who was able to fit his budget better.

Lion Bob Line, who won the Lotto tickets last week, announced that he had won $20 and gave 10% to the club. He was also happy to have celebrated his 90th birthday with a big family party with about 75 people set up by his son-in-law, Lion Pete.

Lion Tom Link was happy about the Murder Mystery Dinner last Saturday, mainly because he was the big winner of three raffle prizes. He was also happy the 49ers had won the NY Giants the on Thursday night. 

Lion Pat was happy that the Murder Mystery Dinner had gone well, even though he was not in attendance.

Lion Steve was happy he was home alone for the week as his wife had gone on a cruise.

Lion Pat was also $5 happy that Diana and Darren were with us for the Hospice program. Lion Pat’s mother had been in Hospice care before she passed, and it was a great service.

Lion Mark was happy that the MMD had gone well and thanked Lion Pete for being one of the big sponsors of the event. 

Lion Pete was also happy that the 49ers had won, being that the SF Giants were a lost cause (man, that makes me happy writing those words). He was also happy because his parents had just celebrated their 70 wedding anniversary, and he was happy for Lion Bob’s 90th birthday. 

Lion Pat was $10 happy for Lion Bob’s 90th birthday and Lion Pete’s parents’ 70 anniversary. 

Lion Dee was happy that he had had his best golf game in over two years recently, and he also noticed that neither Lion Bob nor Lion Tom was not bragging about their game. 

Lion John Parker had a happy buck for the MMD and another for all the hard work Lion Lauri had done to make it a success. 

Lion Karen was happy the MMD went well, but mainly because it was over. 

Fines

Lions Mark and Tom Link were fined for being late to today’s meeting. 

Lion Tom Link fined Lion Bob Line for not inviting him to his 90th birthday party. Lion Bob said it was just family. 

Lion Allen fined Lion John for wearing a wig to the part just Like Lion Allen’s mullet, but Lion John counted, saying that his wig was not a mullet. 

Lion Pat fined himself for being the money taker at today’s meeting.

A good time was had ball all, well, all except the three that died. 

Saturday’s I Love the 80s to Death Murder Mystery Dinner went off without a hitch. Fun was had, a murder, or actually three murders were solved, and everyone went home alive.
Lion Tom Link was the big winner, going home with three raffle prizes; several of our members went back in time, dressing up in ’80s attire complete with wigs and those fabulous 80s fashions.

Lion Tom Gabie will once again head the club’s participation in the band review and announced that this year’s date will be Saturday, October 21.

Lion President Brad announced one last time that the Murder Mystery dinner was Saturday evening.

Happy Bucks 

Lion John Parker was happy he could attend a meeting of the Buttonwill Lions Club recently. In a town of 1,600, this club has 169 members and is the highest per capita Lions Club Membership in the nation, if not the world.

Lion Johnathan Ward was happy to be visiting our club.

Lion Mark was happy to see Jonathan Ward here and was happy his daughter, Rebecca Lynn, finished her orientation at Kaweah Delta.

Lion Allen was happy the Murder Mystery dinner was finally here. He was also happy his son Travis, an air marshall, had completed his year of probation on the job.

Lion Roy was also happy that the Murder Mystery dinner was here.

Zone Charman Jonathan Ward gave a short program on some goals this year. 

Lisa Monteiro was our the program also. Lisa is the director of the Mineral King Preservation Society and her talk was about the history of Mineral King Valley and the goals of the society.
