Todays Meeting

Lion President Mark led our meeting today and called on Lion Dee to lead us in singing God Bless America, Lion Tony for the flag salute, and Lion Brad to do the invocation.

Guest:  Pricilla Lara, an honorary Lion, was our guest today. She is the Leo Advisor at La Sierra Middle School and was our guest today.

Lion Bob Line won the no-fine badge.

Lion Bob was also our secret greeter today.

Announcements

The Three Rivers Lions Club will have its 76th-anniversary party on September 7th; those planning to go should RSVP to Lion Steve by September 2.

Lion Allen announced that we would be having a visitation with the Sunset Lions Club on Tuesday, September 5th, at Marie Calendars, meeting starts at 6:00. Let Allen know if you plan on attending.

Next week’s meeting will be our Wednesday evening at Mountain Mikes Pizza.

Lion Allen was happy that he was going to be spending a week in Las Vegas.

Lion Bob Line was happy that his daughter and son-in-law were going to be doing another commercial for Honda; seems their Honda has about a million miles on the clock.

Lion Dee was happy that Parcilla was with us today and happy that he has six great-grandkids and four more on the way. (he’ll need a flow chart soon)

Our guest and honorary Lion, Parcilla Lara, was happy to be with us today and ready to kick off another year with the Leo Club.

Lion Brad was happy that Hurchaine Hillory was headed our way with some much-needed rain.

Lion Roy was happy the Dodgers had a commanding lead in the NL West, that Priscilla was with us today, and that he was taking a much-needed vacation with Javonna to the Columbia River for the next couple of weeks.

Lion Colin was happy that he and his wife were headed to Nappa for some R+R, and he was happy to be back at the club after a short absence.

Lion Tony was happy he and his wife Nancy were headed to Colorado to see Nancy’s dad. He was also happy that they had a good time at the Sequoia Lions Visitation this past Wednesday.

Lion John was happy to see Parcilla with us today.

Lion Mark was happy Parcilla went to Mt. Whitney high school where he graduated from and encouraged all Whitney grads to put in a buck. He was halso happy that his daughter moved from Texas to Idaho, where shes only a ten hour drive from Visalia.

Lion Mark holds the marble can and Lion Tony draws a black marble, winning zero dollors.

Lion President Allen, who presided over his last meeting as part of our bullpen presidents group, called on Lion Bob Line to lead us in singing God Bless America, Lion Brad for the flag salute, and Lion Betty to do the invocation.

Lion Iris, visiting from the Sequoia Lions Club, won the no-fine badge. 

Lion Pat was the secret greater today, and he was so popular that only Lion Bob Line did not shake his hand.

Announcements

Lion Allen Benoy from the Sequoia Lion Club announced a fundraiser they were having at the Texax Roadhouse on August 23 from 3-9. When you mentioned them at the door, 10% of the proceeds got to the Sequoia Lions.

Lion Karen noted that we still need two $25 gift cards from each club member for the Murder Mystery Dinner on September 16th. Speaking of the MMD, another sponsor came on board; Altura Health will be a $500 sponsor.

At our board meeting this past Wednesday at Valhalas, we voted to give Lion Dees barbershop group $200 toward the Yough Harmony Explosion on September 9th.

Lion Roy had a small box of Jelly Beans that he brought back from his visit to the Ronald Regan Library a couple of weeks ago, and Lion Elaine purchased them for $6.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Karen was happy she could get her flight to Hawaii rerouted to another location and away from the fires.

Lion Pat had relatives in Hawaii who lost their home but were safe.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy our fire chief Dan Griswold was with us today.

Lion John was happy we had a visitation from the Sequoia Lions today.  We have a visitation scheduled with them for next Tuesday at Amegos Restaurant, 5113 W Walnut Ave.

Lion Pete was $20 happy that Sequoia Lions were with us today; he was happy that his grandson made it to the finals of the Cal Ripken playoffs in Idaho though they did not go on to the World Series. He was also happy he spent some time in San Diego with family and that he would be going on his annual backpacking trip out of Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite in a couple of weeks.

Lion Bob Line was happy he got to play a round of golf this morning with Lion Tom Link.

Lion Tom got a birdie on the golf course in his game with Lion Bob, and the bird lived to tell about it.

Lion Mark was happy to see Sequoia Lions today and happy that his daughter got a job as a physical therapist.

Lion Allen Benoy from the Sequoia Lions was happy to be with us today.

Lion Iris from Sequoia was also happy to be here.

Lion Steve was happy he had a good lunch with his son at the Vintage Press.

Lion Tony was happy to see Chief Griswold and the Sequoia Lions.

Lion Roy was happy he could ride the motorcycle today and would go home through Badger after the meeting. He also had a sad buck because his dog Waffles had to be put to sleep a couple of weeks ago.

Lion Pat had a happy $10 for teaching Lion Roy a new word, Piker. Lion Tom accused Roy of being a Piker last week. Was this the North American version of the word or the Australian version?

Fines

Lion Mark fined Lion Bob Line for talking on his phone while driving. 

Lion Roy fined himself for not being at the club for a couple of weeks, and he fined Tom for making him think the former mayor of Washington DC, Marion Berry, was at the club last week. 

Lion Steve drew for the white marble but didn’t get it.

Todays Meeting

On the last Friday meeting in July, Lion Allen came in for short relief from the bullpen and lead the meeting. He called on Lion Colin to lead us in the flag salute, Lion Pat to lead us in singing America The Beautiful, and Lion John to do the invocation. 

The no-fine badge went to Lion John.

Secret Greater: Lion Aaron

Announcements

Lion Bob Line announced that Lion Tom Link had undergone an angiogram that day, and he did not have the results: keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Tom also had been at the coast and contracted COVID before the angiogram.

Lion Bob also gave us an update on his great-grandson in Utah playing in a Cal Ripken all-star tournament. His team had already won two games, and his grandson had pitched in one of those games.

Lion Allen announced that the district 4A2 installation would be this weekend and that Lion Melinda would be there.

In another announcement, Lion President Allen said we would soon have posters for the Murder Mystery dinner courtesy of Epic Print and Promo. They have worked with us in the past, and we thank them for their help.

Lion Dee had visited with fellow Lion Carri Diltz of the Sunset Lions here in Visalia. She recently had a stroke and is in a nursing home. He gave her the card we had passed around at last week’s meeting and said she looked well and is progressing, but it will take some time. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She has been an active Lion for many years.

Lion Allen noted that last Monday’s visitation at the Pride Lions Club was a lot of fun. Great food. (it was a pot luck)

Lion John had returned from an Alaskan Cruze and had a Box of Moose Nugget Bark candy that he auctions off to Lion Pat for $10. John also had a bottle of his personally brewed Apricote Ail that Pat also picked up for $10. Beer and candy, not a bad del Pat. 

Happy Bucks 

Lion Roy was happy his son got rid of an old car by donating it to Kars For Kids. But now he can’t get that little jingle out of his head. (it’s still there)

Lion Steve was happy his Grandson was also playing in a baseball tournament in Paso, but they had lost and will not be going on.

Lion Colin was happy to be going to Catalina for an annual family gathering.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy it was Friday.

Lion Aaron was happy that Wimbelton was great.

Lion Allen was happy he had been in Oakland to watch the Red Sox play and get beaten by the A’s. It was a bit of a bummer when he went out back of the hotel to see a big line of homeless tents. 

Lion Elaine was happy that she was in good enough shape to take care of four grandkids.

Lion Pat added a happy buck for Elaine.

Lion Dee was happy his wife is back home after spending a couple days in the ICU and doing well.

Lion Allen fined Lion Dee for moving to the front of the food line. Lion Dee said to give him a break. His back is hurting. 

Lion Tom Gaebe fined Lion Bob Line for using an announcement to brag about his grandson’s baseball tournament. He also fined Steve because the tournament that Steve’s grandson played in caused such a traffic jam that it took Tom an extra hour to get to the coast. 

Lion Pat fined bullpen president Lion Allen for stealing his own bell. 

Lion Aaron has a good laugh as he gets ready to draw for the marble.

Announcements 

Lion Bob Line announced that Lion Bob Bricker was experiencing some bad back pain, and that is why when have not seen him at a meeting in a few weeks. Lion Bob, We are all thinking and praying for your swift recovery and hope to see you back soon.

Lion Allen announced a couple of visitations coming up. The first,  on Monday the 17th, with the Visalia Pride Club at St. Paul’s church at 6:00 PM. This is a potluck, so bring your pot–no, wait, a pot of food. The second visitation is with the Exeter Lion Club on Thursday, July 27th, at 6:45 AM.

Lion Karen let us know that there was a Murder Mystery Dinner committee meeting last Tuesday. Family Health Care Network just came on board as a sponsor, and things are ramping up for the big day, September 16th. We need two $25 gift cards from each member of the club.

Lion President Mark announced that Board Meetings will now be held in the mornings at Valhalla’s on Center Street. They will still be on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:45AM.

Lion President Mark was happy to get the bell back as it had been hidden from him. 

Lion Leigh was happy to have a donor with deep pockets (a constrictions ferm) for the upcoming Special Olympics golf tournament. 

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy to have gone on a cruise to Hati, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic. 

Our guest and fellow Lion Lola (Sequoia Club) was happy to be with us today and happy for all the Lionism. 

Lion Roy was happy to have been able to ride his motorcycle today. 

Lion Karen was happy because she will be in North Carolina and Tennessee next week. 

Lion Allen was happy he was going to Oakland to watch his beloved Red Sox play and maybe even win the As. 

Lion Pete was happy that both the Giants pitchers in the recent All-Star Game pitched shutout ball. He was also happy that his grandson was going to Utah to play in the Cal Ripkin all star tournament.

Lion Allen fined Lion Bob Line because once Lion Bob Bricker moved in to Quail Park Shannon Ranch, where Bob Line lives, he was unable to attend the meetings. 

Lion Dee fined Lion Allen for making Lion Karen’s baby granddaughter cry.

Lion President Mark Olson led today’s meeting, the first of the new 2023-2024 Lions year. He called on Lion Aaron to lead us in saluting our flag, Lion Pat to lead us in singing My Country Tis of Thee, and Lion Bob Line to do our invocation.

Lion Bob Line won the no-fine badge.

No Badge. Lions Elaine and Bob Line had to pay up because they did not have their badge.

Lion Pat was our secret greeter today, and he was Mr. Big Popular as everyone shook his hand.

Lion president Mark announced that the installation dinner had gone tremendous and fined anyone not in attendance that evening.

Lion Mark also made a note of the September 16th Murder Mystery Dinner and asked everyone to spread the word.

New venue for our Wednesday evening meetings. Thanks to Lion Allen, we will now be meeting at Mountain Mikes Pizza on Monday Blvd. 
After receiving the results from our survey for Wednesday evening meetings, it was determined that the majority of you wanted to continue with an evening meeting once a month and that Wednesday was a good night for most of you.

Happy Bucks 

Lion John Parker was happy he was headed on an Alaskan Cruz in a few days.

Lion Pete was happy his mother had celebrated her 92nd birthday a few days ago, and she and her husband would celebrate 70 years of marriage next weekend.

Lion Pat was happy that his granddaughter had said her first word just a few days ago. He did not share what that word was. 

Lion president Mark was happy that his daughter, who recently began managing a historic market, was interviewed on TV about the one-hundred-year-old store.

Lion Karen was happy that all the officers for the new year had made it to her birthday.

Lion Roy was happy that the Installation Dinner was going so well and that Mark had got all the “bullpen” presidents together a few weeks ago to decide who would come in as relief from the bullpen. Who was going to be short relief, long relief, and closer? He was also happy that the 4th was over as he spent it with his dog, who had curled up in the furthest reaches of the closet trying to get away from all the noise.

Lion Elaine was happy she had seen the “Sound of Freedom” recently.

Fines

Lion Mark fined himself for calling Lion Allen, Roy on more than one occasion.

Lion Karen also fined herself for having to leave early.

Drawings 

Lion president Mark took the meeting in a different direction today as he drew for the $5 just after announcements, and Lion Keren won the five bucks. She donated it to some group that the person doing the Roar did not note.

Lion Steve was the big winner today, winning the Lotto, the Marble (where he came home empty), and the free add.

Lester Moon, from Hands in the Community, was our program today, sharing what the organization does to help people in need of assistance in the community. Things like yard clean up, ramps for people using wheelchairs, painting, and building fences. He also talked about the challenges of raising money since COVID.

Lion John Parker was the master of ceremonies at our annual installation dinner of Thursday June 29th at the Vintae Press. 

Recently our club awarded us two scholarships for the year. Past President Lion tony made the awards of $1000 each.
