Lion president Aaron was our meetings leader today and called on Lion Steve to lead us in saluting the flag, Lion Bob Line to lead us in singing God Bless America, and Lion Tom to do the invocation.

The No fine badge went to Lion Bob Line, who took advantage of this all through the meeting.

Lion Allen was the secret greater today and Lions Pat, Tom, and Tony did not shake his hand and each paid their $1.

Announcements

Board Meeting notes: The board meeting took place on Wednesday the 13th at Quail Park Shannon Ranch and at the meeting, we made plans for the membership mixer on the 28th and voted to give $500 each to McKellar Farms (Farmers Bobs World)  and to the Visalia Gleaning Seniors, both of whom talked to the club recently.

Lion Pat paid $5 to announce his barbershop group, The Mighty Oak Chorus,  concert at the Central Valley Christian church on April 30th. You can purchase tickets on their site for $20.

A reminder that this coming Tuesday at noon is our visitation at the Sequoia Lions club at the Lamp Liter.

Lion Tom Link went to Moro Bay this past week but did not bring anything for auction back with him, so he gave $10 to the club.

Lion Bob Lines was happy his great-granddaughter did well in a city track meet recently.

Lion Pat was happy his daughter-in-law was expecting.

Lion Tom Link had a great time in Moro Bay this last week.

Lion Vicki was happy her husband was still doing fine and that on April 6th they had celebrated their 54th anniversary. She was also $2 happy that all of us 11 people showed up at the meeting today.

Lion Pat was happy that his ex-wife had called him this past week and reminded him that if they would have stayed married it would have been 49 years.

Lion Allen was happy his ex had not talked to him since 1982. He was also happy that he had got his second booster for Covid.

Lion Roy was also happy he had not heard from his ex for at least three years.

Lion Allen had a sad buck. He had rented a limo for a date and found out that it did not come with a driver.

Lion president Aaron was happy our guest was here today.

Lion Steve was happy that it was Jackie Robinson day in professional baseball. He was a Brooklyn Dodger jersey in commemoration. 

Lion Karen was happy for all five of the handsome men at the back table.

No one fined anyone today.

This was the day for our guest to win it all: the $5, Lotto tickets, free add, and the marble. wow, Cindy, I hope you went to a casino after our meeting.

 

 

Cindy Summers from the Visalia Cemetery District was our program today and gave us information on how the cemetery is run and what events are planned at the cemetery, including a few weddings.

The secret grater today was Lion Craig, who was so popular the only person who did not shake his hand was Lion Tony, and he had the no fine badge.

Announcements

Lion Aaron announced that the district had collected over 1,500 lbs of plastic bags in the effort to make benches. There is still time to bring your bags to the next club meeting for this project.

Lion Karen auctioned off that SF Giants Keychain she had last week, the one that didn’t sell. Today it was purchased by Lion Craig for $10.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat was happy that his housekeeper helped him go through his mom’s stuff and clean his office up. He was also happy his grandson hit a triple and stole home in a LL game.

Lion Pete spent some time at Shaver lake last week and had a great time. He also had a happy buck for the fact that the phone call from the alarm company that he got at two in the morning this week was a false alarm. A moth or something had triggered it. He was also happy that baseball season has started.

Lion Allen was also happy baseball was back.

Lion Craig was happy that he got in one last day of snow skiing this week, and that baseball was back. He was also happy because he booked a hiking trek in Nepal for November.

Lion Pat was $10 happy that Bill Goodreau was with us today with the honor flights. He has had a couple of friends that had gone on one of the trips.

Lion Vicki was happy that her husband was doing well and that Bill was with us to talk about the honor flights.

Lion Roy was happy for the warm weather today (96) and for the fact that Bill had stepped in at the last minute to be today’s program. 

Fines

Lion Allen fined Lions Aaron and Steve for not noting this month’s Birthdays. He was informed that there were no club members born in the month of April but he said his fine still stood because they should have mentioned that fact. 

Lion Vicki fined herself for forgetting her and her husband’s 54th wedding anniversary.

Lion Pat fined himself for falling out of bed and cutting his arm. He has had it happen before and has not figured out the issue. “Gard rails,” someone said.

Lion Vicki tried to fine Lion Tony for telling her he couldn’t go somewhere because his wife, Nancy, had him all tied up that day. Lion Vicki said she had visions that were not safe for work or Lions club. She had to pay the fine because Lion Tony had the no fine badge.

Bill Goodreau from Central Valley Honor flights was our program today. The Honor flights take veterans to Washington DC to visit the war memorials at no cost to the veterans. They have been doing this for many years but because of COVID have not been able to go for over two years. Next month will be their first flight in over two years.

Secret Greater: Lion Bob Line, who relished the fact that several of us did not feel the need to greet him.

No fine badge: Lion Tom Link. We were lucky to have so many auction items today because with Tom getting the no fine badge, our income was greatly diminished.

Announcements

Lion Lauri made an announcement and a plea for all club members to help with the April 28th membership mixer at the Marriott. Lauri spoke about the need for new members in the club and the fact that because of our small size we were not able to do either the golf tournament or the murder mystery fundraisers.

Visitations: Note. The Visitation that was scheduled for this Wednesday, April 6th at 6:30 has been canceled.

Lion Tony had been to the coast and auctioned off a bag of giant chocolate chip cookies that was bought by Lion Roy for $10. (and they are good)

Lion Tom Link had been to Vegas and brought back a flowering plant that was purchased by Lion Lauri for $10

Lion Karen had been to Arizona to watch several MLB spring training games and brought back both a Dodgers and a Giants Key chain, Lion Steve bought the Dodger one, but to the great amusement of the Dodger fans, no one bought the Giant one.

Lion Betty and Aaron had been to Anaheim for a few days but did not bring back anything to auction off so they donated $10.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat was happy that his niece’s daughter had recently got a job with the Penski-Porscha racing team in Europe.

Lion Karen was happy to be back at club after a couple of weeks away. She was also happy to have gone to the play Hamilton in Fresno recently.

Lion Lauri and Lion Dennis were both happy to be at a lunch meeting as it normally conflicts with their work schedule.

Lion Vicki was happy that her husband was still doing fine and happy that Lion Dennis, (her new best friend) was at the meeting today.

Lion Bob Line was happy that his wife’s nephew, Carter Glick was voted athlete of the week.

Lion Allen was happy that at last Wednesday’s eye screening they screened 72 kids.

Lion Brad was happy that his 7-year-old granddaughter, who has an email address, emailed him and when he emailed her right back she was so excited. He was also happy that at the end of the month he was going to Mississippi.

Lion Pat was happy that Lion President Aaron had brought our flag for last weeks meeting at Quail Park Shannon Ranch.

Lion Karen gave $1 because she won $6 from the Lotto tickets she had won at the last meeting she was at.

Lion Lauri was happy that Lion Dennis got to sit next to Lion Vicki.

Fines

Lion Allen fined Lion Vicki for gushing the way she did about Lion Dennis.

Our program today was given by Tricia Stever-Blattler of the farm bureau. She gave us a little history of the organization and what it does for farmers. She said, like our club, the farm bureau was losing members as big corporate farmers were buying out the family farm.

Evening meeting at Quail Park Shannon Ranch

Sonia Mehrmand from Story Corps, our program for our first regular Friday night meeting.

Lion past president Craig Wheaton lead the meeting today in Lion president Arron’s absence and called on Lion Melinda to lead us in saluting the flag, Lion Pat to lead us in singing the God Bless America, and Lion Bob Line to do the invocation.

Lion Craig did not ask anyone to be a secret greater tonight so he paid $5, which he felt would be more than the secret greater would have brought in if he had of remembered.

Membership mixer committee meeting: Wednesday, March 30th, 5:30 at Quail Park Shannon Ranch.

Lion Allen along with Lions Roy and Leigh Musconi screened 85 kids this past Wednesday morning at Valley Oak Charter school on Akers and Caldwell. This was the first vision screening in over two years and we have another one this coming Wednesday at Valley Life’s other campus  at Walnut and Demeree.

Don’t forget about our membership mixer on April 28th from 5:30-8:00 at the Marriott. Each member is encourgaged to bring a guest and hopefully somone who is a prospective member. It’s been said that nothing happens without money, and you could also say nothing happens without club members.

We had three guests today, Lion Bob’s wife, Norma Kay was with us, Craig brought along a guest, long time friend Charlene and our Speaker, Sonia Mehrmand from Story Corps was also with us.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Lauri was happy to be able to attend our first regular evening meeting, alos happy her boyfriend Dennis was able to attend and she remeided everyone about April 28th Mixer.

Pat was happy that his barbershop group was set to do it’s first concert in quite some time on April; 30th at the Central Valley Christian Chapal.

Lion Melinda, who has been unable to attend our lunch meetings for quite some time was $10 happy to be at our evening meeting.

Lion Roy was happy for the warm weather we have been having the last few days.

Lion Vicki was happy that her husband was still doing well and was at an NRA meeting tonight, she was also happy to be sitting next to Lauri’s boyfriend Dennis.

Lion Allen was happy for being able to do the vision screenings last Wednesday and was heppy to see Melinda.

Lion Pat was $20 happy for Allen being here tonight as he said that Allen was the only good thing to come out of the 20th infantry. (I don’t have the full story on that one)

Lion Craig was happy to see Melinda, happy that he was going skiing tomorrow, happy that he was going to see his daughter and son-in-law next week and happy that Charlene was at our meeting tronight.

Lion Lauri was happy our guests were here tonight.

Lioin Dennis was happy baseball was back.

Lion Janet was happy to be back at club.

Fines

Lion Vicki fined Lion Allen for too much information when Allen gave a happy buck for Charlene being our guest. Some implications about her and Craig.

Lion Bob fined Lion Lauri for having a big plate of donuts delivered to her office at Quail Park. He wondered how she could have eaten all those donuts.

Sonia Mehrmand was our guest again tonight. I say again because this was the second time she has been a guest at our club. She is with Story Corps, a orgazation who brings together people with different views and has them get to know each other through a series of questions. She showed us two short videos of our own Lions Craig and Arron going through the process.

Friday, March 25th: Next week’s meeting will be the first of our monthly evening meetings. (There will be no lunch meeting that day.) Our meeting will be at Quail Park at Shannon Ranch, 3440 W Flagstaff Ave just off Demaree, and will begin at 5:30. Lion Bob Line was happy that his great-grandson pitched a winning game for his Little league team. He will remind Lion Pete, (who is his grandfather) to give a happy buck for it next week when Pete returns.

Lion Roy was happy that Saturday will be his 11th wedding Anniversary.

Lion Steve was happy he got to spend 4 days in Long Beach because his house was being tented for termites. Lion Pat replied that he must have spent all four days inside because he came back with no tan.

Lion Vicki was happy because her husband was still doing well and that she and Allen have the same middle name.

Fines

Lion Tom was fined because his phone rang during the meeting.

Lion Roy fined the unknown truck driver that was responsible for the rock that hit the windshield of his truck.

Ed Needham with the Tulare County sheriffs association gave us a talk today about what the association is, what it does, and how it’s getting back into gear after two years of COVID. The date of the Visalia Host Lions Membership mixer has been set for April 28th from 5:30-8:00 at the Visalia Convention Center. Please be thinking of guests who may be interesting in joining the club and would like to attend.

Our monthly board meeting is set for this coming Wednesday, March 16th at 5:30 at Quail Park Shannon Ranch.

Our guest today was Visalia fire chief Dan Griswald, who was also our program.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pete was happy that major league baseball had come to an agreement and will be back the first week of April.

Karen had a happy buck because she won the Lotto tickets last week and won $6.00, she was also happy because baseball is back and she is going to Spring Training in Arizona for the next two weeks.

Roar editor Lion Roy was happy he had a good motorcycle camping trip to Death Valley last week.

Lion Brad was happy that the fire chief was with us today and that he and his famous red State Farm panel van would be in the Visalia St. Patrick’s day parade on Saturday.

Lion Craig was $5 happy that he was able to be at an educational event in the bay area last week and it was in person, for the first time in two years. He said that when the person in charge saw him, he said “oh no, it’s you, the last time I saw you things didn’t go so well” (it was March 2020 and everything shut down just a few days later) He was also happy because he had plans to surprise his daughter on her birthday by showing up at her house when she got off work.

Lion Bob Line was happy that Visalia Unified has a new superintendent. For some strange reason, Bob relates to the position of school superintendent.

Lion Vicki was happy her husband is doing great and was playing golf in Tulare, she was also happy that chief Davenport was with us, and in April she is going to Las Vegas and will be going to a John Legend concert, though she had a little brain freeze and thought that it was John Lennon.

Today’s Program

Visalia’s fire chief, Dan Griswald was our program today and he gave us lots of interesting information on the department and on his journey. He was from Casper Wyoming, has a wife and two kids, and has been in Visalia for two years. In fact, he arrived in town in February of 2020.
