June 23, 5:00 PM Vintage Press: Installation dinner to install our new slate of officers. 5-6 Happy hour, dinner starts at 6. The cost has gone up a little to $30 for Lions Members and $40 for guests.

Lion Vicki has recently had a small stroke but Lion Steve reports that she is doing very well. We wish her well and hope to see her at our meetings soon. In Fact. Lion Tony was keeping Vicki’s seat warm for her at today’s meeting.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat was $5 happy that he had relatives coming into town from all over the world.

Lion Bob Line was happy that his daughter Jody was voted women of the year on Thursday evening at the chamber awards, and a happy buck because his grandson will be the new head baseball coach at El Demonte.

Lion Tom Gaebe was happy to be back at club.

Lion Rich Manley was happy to be here.

Lion Dee was happy to see Lion Rich here today, he said Rich knows everything.

Lion Aaron was happy that Rafael Nadal won the French Open tennis tournament, winning his 22 grand slam and becoming the oldest champ in tournament history.

Lion Roy was happy we have a slate of officers for next year.

Lion Karen was happy to see Tom Gaebe back with us and also happy for the slate of officers.

Fines

Lion Tony fined himself for having to leave early.

Lion Karen fined Lion Roy for leaving the building at the last meeting with the no fine badge still around his neck. (hay, I was hoping it would work out in the real world)

Winners and Losers

$5 went to Lion Pat who donated it to the eye foundation.

Lotto tickets went to Lion Roy, and I won $12 so I will owe a little next week.

Lion Miriam (also known as MJ)   drew for the coveted yellow marble ( we could not find the white one)  but came up with some other color that did not net her anything except another mention in this newsletter.

Fellow Lion Richard Manley of the Sequoia Lions Club gave us an informative talk about NASA and what the space program has brought down to earth that we use every day. From cell phones to MRIs. Rich worked at NASA during the Apollo program.

Lion president Aaron leads our meeting.

Lion president Aaron lead the meeting today, beginning the last month of his presidency.  He called on Lion Karen to lead us in saluting the flag, Lion Tom Link to lead us in singing My Country Tis of Thee, and Lion Dee to do the invocation.

No fine badge went to Lion Roy.

Lion Allen was the secret greater and was able to avoid several people and earn the club some much-needed cash. Many were heard to say that it was well worth the dollar.

Our monthly board meeting will be this coming Wednesday the 8th at 5:30 at Quail Park Shannon Ranch. New members take note: We have board meetings on the second Wednesday of each month and you are welcome to attend. When you do, you will get to turn your badge right side up and get a better idea of what our club does. If you do decide to attend please let Lion Aaron know by calling or texting him at 408-568-2533, also we eat dinner at the board meetings and you will need to contact Leslie (leslieh@qpshannonranch.com)  at Shannon Ranch and give her your selection. Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat was $20 happy that Lions Aaron and Betty brought all the “equipment” to Shannon Ranch for the evening meeting last week, saving him a lot of work.

Lion Dee was happy that his brother and his brother’s new wife came to town to visit him and his wife this week, though he was not happy that both the wives got sick.

Lion Craig was $5 happy that everything listened to his program at the last meeting.

Lion Roy was happy that the temps would be in the 80s for the outdoor wedding he is photographing on Saturday and the following weekend, when the temps will be over 100, his wedding will be inside at the Windham.

Lion Tom Link was glad he will be at his house in Moro Bay next weekend where the temps will be much cooler. He was also happy that he got a par on one hole in his morning golf game.

Lion Pat was also happy that he was having a birthday party at his house and his neese from Germany will be in attendance.

Lion Craig had another happy buck because he got to give the commencement address at a charter school graduation this past week.

Lion Aaron was happy that Jeremy Schultz was our program today. He stepped in at the last moment when our scheduled speaker couldn’t make it. He was also happy that the British Open was going on and there were some great tennis matches to watch.

Lion Allen was happy that next weekend he was making his annual trek to watch the Red Sox play the Angles in Anaheim with his kids. It will make the 20th year he has gone.

Fines

Lion Allen fined Lion Dee for Dee’s phone going off earlier in the meeting.

Lion Roy fined himself, even though he had the no fine badge because he had to leave early.

Karen also finded herself because she also had to leave early.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Melinda was $5 happy because she had recently purchased a new car. Plus, she had $2 because the evening meeting allowed her to attend as she is not able to attend our Friday noon meetings.

Lion Pat was also $5 happy, one because Melinda was with us tonight and also because he has a new gardener. His former gardener has been out sick with COVID for over two months.

Lion Dennis was glad to see new all the new members at our meeting tonight.

Lion Craig was happy for the night meeting also, and happy that we were having a great program tonight. (clue, he was the program)

Lion Allen was happy because he had made his last payment on his car.

Lion Pat fined Roar editor Lion Roy for getting it wrong in the last edition, Roy had noted that it was Lion Betty Morris who insinuated that we were all getting old, and Pat said it was our own Lion Betty Odell.

Next week’s meeting will be our monthly evening meeting, Wednesday the 25th. There will be no meeting next Friday. 

Lion District Governor David Hamilton passed out several membership awards.  Lion Craig his 15 years, and Lion Brad got his 15 year also.  Lion Roy got his 20-year, and Lion Pat got his 30-year.

We had several guests today. District governor David Hamilton was on hand, and Lion Betty Morris from Sunset Lions. Juneann smith from Ms. California along with Keira Bixler, Mss Tulare county outstanding teen, and her mother, Heather.  Also, prospective member Colin Franey was with us today.

Lion Allen was $10 happy that his eldest son had gone back to college and graduated today.

Lion Pat was happy that Sierra Pacific Ortheapotic had said he had arthritis and not something more serious.

Lion Dee was happy to be back at a club meeting.

Lion Pete was $20 happy. One, his guest Colin Franey was with us today, his 9-year-old grandson was on an all-star LL team and was in Fresno this weekend, and he had just closed on a vacation condo on a lake in N. Carolina.

District Governor David Hamilton was happy because there are now two Leo clubs in Visalia.

Lion Bob Line was happy that Carter Glick, a relative of his, was All-West Yosemite leagues athlete of the year, and with Keira here, he noted that his wife was a former Ms. Visalia.

Lion president Aaron was happy for all our guests today.

Lion Betty was happy new Lion Patti Mejia was with us today.

Lion Brad was happy that he would not be with us for the next couple of weeks because he would be on vacation to Iowa and Kentucky.

Lion Tom Link was happy that the Visalia Chamber had voted his brother, Bob, Man of the year.

Lion Vicki was happy her husband was doing fine.

Lion Pat wanted our visitor, Colin Franey, to know that his late mother had kept Franeys in business over the years with her numerous purchases.

Lion Roy was fined for making a slightly (and the emphasis is on slightly) off-color remark.

Today’s Program

Keira Bixler, Mis Tulare County’s outstanding teen, was our guest speaker. She went over all the things she is involved in, including writing a children’s book and working for literacy in the county. She told us that Tulare County’s illiteracy rate is 41%.  After her talk, we all wondered how she had time to breathe.

Lion Steve announced the sad news that Lion Tom Gabbie’s wife, Patty passed away. No date has been set for a service.

Our visitation at Sequoia Lions club went well this past Wednesday.

Don’t forget, this coming Thursday the 28th will be our membership mixer at the Marriott, Lion Aaron announced that our District Govoner Lion David Hamilton and Visalia mayor Steve Nelsen will attend.

We will be having a regular lunch meeting the day after the mixer and next month we will have what will become our regular evening meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the month, May 25th at Quail Park Shannon Ranch.

Lion Pat paid a buck to announce his barbershop group, the Mighty Oak Chorus concert on Saturday, April 30th.

We had guests Oscar and Tiffany Lopez with us today, they own Oscar’s Automotive on Main street across from the PPAV hall. Lion Aaron said he is the best in the valley. Wife Tiffany takes care of the books.

Happy Bucks 

Lion Pat was happy that he got his house organized with the help of his housekeeper.

Lion Pete was happy his grandson, Noah, went 3 for 3 in a recent little league game, and at the same game, Lion Bob Line recognized someone who he taught more than a few years ago. Lion Pete was impressed with Lion Bob’s memory.

Lion Bob Line was happy he had got two pars in his morning’s golf game.

Lion Roy was happy the Dodgers were in first place.

Lion Karen was glad to see our guests, Oscar and Tiffany at our meeting.

Lion Steve gave us a story about his grandson in a baseball game that went to the time limit and will need to be finished on Sunday. I’m not sure that he or his grandson were happy about that.

Lion Betty was happy that Oscar and Tiffany were with us.

Lion Craig was not so much happy that it was the end of Ski season, but now it’s backpacking season. He had been on a week-long trip.

Lion Tom Links’s wife had her 80th birthday last week and Tom said it was a very expensive birthday. But worth it.

Lion Vicki was $5 happy her husband was doing well.

Lion Roy was happy that the Circle K in Tulare (near Leo Coast’s Gym) has gas for $4.69 and great chocolate chip cookies, 2 for $1.

Fines

Lion Vicki fined Lion Steve for calling his grandson’s baseball team “Little Farts”. She also fined Pete for looking directly at her when he was talking about Lion Bob talking to an “elderly” lady.

Lion Betty fined Lion Roy for reporting in last week’s Roar that Lion Steve had led the flag salute when she had done it.

Lion Vicki fined Lion Craig for saying a story he had told was better than a story she had told, but she admitted it was.

Lion Tom Link fined Lion Bob Line for leaving a recent Rawhide game became it was sprinkling a little. Upon further examination, we found that Tom had left before the end of the game also.
